Welcome Letter To Parents
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Mrs. Pendleton’s class! We have a busy and exciting year in store for us.
This will be my 8th year at Pleasant Hill School, and I consider myself very fortunate to
be among such a professional faculty, wonderful students, and involved and interested
parents.
This year in reading I once again look forward to team teaching once again with Mrs. Baker.
This will be our third year teaching with a new Prentice Hall Reading Series. We are excited
about this series because it offers leveled reading passeges in each unit. Each group will
complete the same activities, which includes vocabulary, questions, completing graphic organizers.
The leveled reading passages allows the student to read at his or her reading level. Having smaller
reading groups allows Mrs. Baker and I to devote more time and attention to each student, which will
ultimately improve their reading ability. During the course of the year I will be sending home
packets of activities for you and your child to complete to assist with reading fluency and reading
comprehension. I will also post links on the website that students may access to help them achieve
their goals in reading. This year we will begin the year reading poetry!
In math we will be working hard to increase the students math skills by using Saxon Math
and common core lessons from the Utah website. I will be posting websites that students
may access from home to improve their math skills.
I realize that teaching your child is a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I
will do my best to ensure that each student has a motivating and safe learning experience
in the classroom. I will also need your help. We both need to be partners in the learning
process. I need each of you to encourage your child at home by helping to ensure that they
have completed their assignments, and help them study for quizzes and tests. I will keep you
informed of our assignments and subjects that are covered in class. I know that with your help
we are going to have a great year.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. You my reach me at the school
phone number 309 637-6829 or by email using the contact form on this website or at dpendleton
@phill69.com. I look forward to working with you as a partner in your child's education.
Sincerely,
Debra Pendleton
